There’s nothing better than an intimate elopement when it comes to one of the most picturesque towns on the East Coast—Cape May, New Jersey. Recently, I had the pleasure of planning for Emma and Mike a couple who chose the charming coastal town of Cape May as the backdrop for their elopement.
Invitations that Speak to the Location
When it comes to creating a wedding experience, every detail matters. I wanted the invitations to truly reflect the beauty of Cape May. Instead of going with a standard design, I worked with a talented designer to incorporate sketches of the quintessential Cape May mansions—those iconic, grand Victorian homes that line the streets of this historic town.
To make it even more special, I chose unique, non-traditional shapes for the invites. Instead of the standard rectangle, we went with a more unexpected silhouette that immediately caught the eye. It was a small but meaningful touch that set the tone for the wedding day to be anything but ordinary.
Getting Ready Together – A True Moment of Connection
I love elopements because you’re able to connect with your partner in a way that’s not always possible with a larger wedding. For this couple, they chose to get ready together. As a result they’re able to enjoy each other’s company while savoring every moment. It’s these quiet, personal moments that truly make elopements so special.
An Intimate Picnic on the Beach at the Cape May Lighthouse
Their reception was on the beach. A relaxed and intimate picnic with their closest friends. This was one of the most heartwarming parts of the day—no formal reception, no large crowd, just the couple and their nearest loved ones enjoying a gorgeous, sunny afternoon by the water.
The picnic setup was relaxed yet elegant, with soft blankets, cushions, and low-profile tables that allowed everyone to truly feel at ease. It was a perfect way to celebrate their love, surrounded by the natural beauty of Cape May.
Floral Designs Inspired by the Coast
The flowers for this Cape May elopement were carefully chosen to complement the stunning seaside location. We opted for a palette of soft neutrals—creamy whites, soft blushes, and delicate greens—balanced with dramatic, coastal-inspired florals. The textured and airy blooms made a beautiful contrast against the soft, sandy beach and the cool blues of the ocean.
Final Thoughts on the Perfect Cape May New Jersey Elopement
This elopement was the perfect mix of intimate, personal, and breathtakingly beautiful. Every detail, from the invitations to the coastal florals was thoughtfully designed to reflect the location and couples love story. The relaxed yet refined setting allowed the couple to truly enjoy their wedding day. Allowing them to focus on what mattered most—each other and the start of their new life together.
Elopements are about celebrating love in a way that feels true to who you are as a couple, and for this couple, their Cape May wedding day was a beautiful reflection of their love, their connection, and the beautiful world around them.
